KASE Academy FAQ
What is KASE Academy?
- King Academic School of Excellence was established to address the many needs of high school students in Sheldon ISD who, otherwise, may not be able to obtain a high school diploma.
- KASE may also serve students who may not thrive in a traditional high school setting and/or any high school student. All coursework is delivered online via Edgenuity with classroom teachers as facilitators.
Who is eligible to attend KASE?
● You must reside within the physical boundaries of Sheldon ISD.
● You must not have already received a GED or high school diploma.
● You have to be designated as at risk of not graduating based on the Texas at risk
indicators.
● You must have previously passed the Algebra I STAAR/EOC exam.
● If you have 10 or more credits you will be admitted to KASE if seats are available.
● If you have fewer than 10 credits you will have to meet with your Academy Principal,
Academy Counselor, KASE Academy Representative, and your parent(s) in order to
decide whether KASE is the appropriate instructional setting for you.
How do I apply to KASE?

What time does school start?

Doors open at 6:35am

Classes begin at 7:05am
- Students with 14 or fewer courses to complete are dismissed at 12:30pm
- Students with 15 or more courses are dismissed at 2:30pm.
- Students who have not yet passed an EOC/STAAR Test may be required to stay until 2:30pm to accommodate time spent intervention/accelerated instruction.
- All students are dismissed at 12:30pm on Fridays.
Is transportation provided?

Yes, transportation is provided if you live within Sheldon ISD boundaries and outside of the 2 mile radius of KASE .
May I drive my car to school?
- Yes. If you have a valid driver’s license and updated insurance, you may drive to KASE.
Will I receive a specialized diploma from KASE?
- No. KASE is a credit recovery/drop-out prevention program, however, you will receive a standard high school diploma.
- After graduating from KASE, you may attend any college, university, trade school or military in which you have met requirements for admission.
Where does KASE hold their graduation ceremony?

KASE and C. E. King High School has a combined graduation ceremony. The location of the SISD graduation ceremony will be determined at a later date. There is no distinction among students with the exception of the sleeve patch on their gowns.
Is there a summer graduation ceremony if I finish my coursework after the Spring graduation ceremony?

No. There is only one (1) graduation ceremony in Sheldon ISD which is held in May or June, depending on the district calendar.

Once KASE students complete their graduation requirements, they are encouraged to participate in the very next graduation ceremony.
How many credits do I need to graduate?

KASE, like other Texas high schools, adheres to the graduation requirements from House Bill 5 (HB 5), passed by the 83rd Texas Legislature. Your specific graduation plan will be discussed upon acceptance into KASE.

Are KASE students allowed to participate in C. E. King High School extracurricular
activities?
- Yes. KASE students may participate in extracurricular activities once you have made a team or
- squad. If you are interested in playing sports, we encourage you to try out for the team.
- Transportation is provided from KASE to KHS and back.
May I go to prom?

If you are a Senior, you may attend prom.
May I take Dual Credit classes?

It depends. If you are currently enrolled, you may be able to continue that course once accepted to KASE.
May I remain in my endorsement I selected upon entering 9th grade?

It depends. If you are in an endorsement that requires two (2) years of study, then you would have to remain in KASE for those two (2) years in order to fulfill your requirement of that specific program.

KASE does not offer every program that KHS offers, so determination will be made for each individual student.
